Bangkok

Asia’s most LGBT+ welcoming metropolis

Bangkok, Thailand’s capital is also known as the “City of Angels” (Krung Thep). It is a bustling city, steeped in tradition and yet one of the most modern metropolises in the world. Soaring skyscrapers, cutting-edge art and fashion, colorful temples, and mesmerizing royal palaces, Bangkok will thrill and amaze you.

It is by far the most densely populated city in Thailand with about 12 million people surrounded by the flowing waters of the Chao Phraya River. It is home to one of the world’s largest airports and yet it’s still a place where food and flowers are sold from wooden long-tail boats floating on the river.

Mobility around the city comes with ease. The SkyTrain has literally changed the face and dynamics of the city, but tourists are encouraged to be adventurous and jump on a TukTuk or Motorbike.

Bangkok is a city of contradictions, visit the oldest Chinatown in the whole world and explore high-rise, international neighbourhoods. Shop at a brand new mall, or try your bargaining skills at the vibrant Chatuchak Market. Eat at a street-vendor or food court, or graze at Michelin star restaurants.

Are you fan of nightlife and partying? Visit Soi 2 to 4, in Silom for the gay nightlife hot spot of Bangkok, where both locals and tourists flock to have a great time and mingle. There is also Sukhumvit Road, Sapan Kwai and Ramkamhaeng that host a great gay/nightlife atmosphere. Or head up to a rooftop bar and enjoy a panoramic 360-degree view of this sprawling city. Come to one of the city’s music of dance festivals – like the White Party; or G-Circuit, during Songkran. Check out the Queens of Drag-race Thailand; who can be found at pop-up events across the city, or at the legendary Maggie Choos.

Bangkok is easily the most LGBT+ welcoming capital city in Asia. The slogan Mai Pen Rai (Thai for “no worries”), defines the friendliness and open mentality of all Thais and despite Bangkok being a metropolis, this welcoming, live and let live culture thrives here.
