During our three-week honeymoon in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket, we had the pleasure of staying in four incredible hotels. As a queer couple, with one of us being transgender, we meticulously researched these hotels, and after experiencing them for ourselves, we can confirm they go above and beyond with their distinct designs, romantic rooms, beautiful views, and hospitality. Each property and their respective staff welcomed us as newlyweds with open arms. Capella Bangkok
Our honeymoon began at Capella Bangkok, where we were immediately struck by the unparalleled level of luxury, exceptional design, and meticulous attention to detail in service. The Capella Culturists were simply amazing – ours, named Pacman, orchestrated many surprises for us to celebrate our honeymoon, which were so thoughtful and appreciated. The hotel also offers a convenient, complimentary shuttle boat service that takes guests to a number of popular spots, including ICONSIAM.
We enjoyed dinner at Phra Nakhon (their onsite restaurant) with beautiful views of the river, and we loved the atmosphere of Stella for after-dinner drinks. A highlight of our night there was when the live singer and pianist duo took a song request from Ren.
We could go on and on about our time at Capella Bangkok, but it was perfect and we’d recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious way to experience the beautiful capital.
Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai
During our exploration of the best LGBTQ-friendly honeymoon hotels in Thailand, we had the pleasure of staying at Aleenta Retreat Chiang Mai and had the most special time. The property is brand new and incredibly beautiful, blending traditional Northern Thai design with touches of modernity. With its boutique size, even in high season, the public areas were never overly crowded, and the staff paid close attention to detail. Khun Thomas and Khun Alfa made our stay at Aleenta truly meaningful, and our plunge pool room with the lofted bedroom felt like a home away from home.
We enjoyed breakfast and dinner at The Garden restaurant and drinks at 1892 Bar, and had a wonderful meditation and sound healing session in the higher purpose room when we needed to unwind. One of the highlights of our trip was the cooking class with Chef Arm, where we learned to make traditional Miang Kham, Khao Soi, and Mango Sticky Rice. We also enjoyed rejuvenating reflexology analyses and massages at the spa.
The property offers transportation to nearby attractions such as a local temple and artisan shopping area, which was a lovely perk. We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to enjoy the stillness of nature and wonderful wellness opportunities in beautiful Chiang Mai.
99 The Heritage Hotel
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 99 The Heritage Hotel. This boutique gem is adorned with beautiful design elements at every turn, showcasing its meticulous attention to detail across its 26 rooms. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a thoughtful bouquet of roses and decorations in our deluxe room, which overlooked Wat Phra Singh Waeamahavihan. We were also given vouchers to use for a couples massage and afternoon tea during our stay.
Despite its proximity to the Old City Gates and the Sunday Night market, the hotel remains peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast selection, both buffet and plated, and the complimentary amenities available at all hours in the lobby, such as ice cream, water, juices, and Thai snacks. We recommend 99 The Heritage Hotel for those who appreciate boutique design and seek a convenient location for exploring Chiang Mai.
The Shore at Katathani
We spent a full week at The Shore at Katahani and relished in the resort’s super romantic accommodations. Our room boasted a king-size bed, a luxurious bathtub, a spacious shower with two rainshower heads, and floor-to-ceiling windows offering stunning views of our private pool and the ocean. Upon arrival, we were greeted by honeymoon decor and congratulatory cupcakes.
The Shore enjoys a prime location and offers a fast buggy service to transport you to your room and into town, where you can shop, get massages, and go to restaurants. We particularly enjoyed The Shore’s delicious complimentary breakfast buffet and had an unforgettable meal at the on-site Thai restaurant, Param Para. One of the highlights of our stay here was the exceptional staff, who remembered our names and were incredibly kind. We recommend The Shore at Katathani to anyone searching for an Idyllic honeymoon resort destination with a beachfront where you can relax.
